The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council has a number of events going on in conjunction with the festival on the Courthouse Lawn on Friday, April 26th

Schedule of events include:

Studio Tours on the Double Decker bus departing from Skipwith Cottage at 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm

Tour includes stops at the following artists' studios:

12pm-5pm Museum on the Square

Create a quick project inspired by the Museum's collection of Theora Hamblett paintings.

1pm-5pm Painting What You See

The Oxford Artists Guild will be doing a plein air painting demonstration. Festival goers can watch multiple artists create a work of art as they, paint "whatever they see."

Studio Whimzy will be teaching a popular Z-event style class. The subject of the painting is Double Decker Bus and the cost is $25 and will include supplies.

Off Square Events include:

Eco-Fashion Show- There will be a Eco-Fashion Show at the Jackson Avenue Center at 7:00 p.m.  All clothing is all natural and recycled.  The show costs $5.

 

Letterpress Demonstration- The Ole Miss Art Department Printmakers will be doing letterpress demonstration at Meek Hall on the Ole Miss campus.  It will be in room 113 and will be from 1:00 p.m. till 2:30 p.m.

Offerings- Meek Hall will be hosting a Norma Acord ceramics show titled, “Offerings”.  It will take place in Gallery 130 in Meek Hall on the Ole Miss campus from 1:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m.

Mud Daubers- There will be a ceramics demonstration on the front lawn of Meek Hall, located on the Ole Miss Campus.  It will take place from 1:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m.

Mold Making- The Rebel Sculpture Society will be offering mold-making class using a cauldron and hot molten metals.  It will take place in the sculpture lawn at Meek Hall on the Ole Miss campus. This class will be from 1:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m.  The cost is between $30 and $110 depending on what kind of project you want to do.

"Muses and Metaphor" Panel Discussion: The University of Mississippi Department of Art will be hosting a Brown Bag Panel discussion featuring internationally acclaimed, American realist painter, Bo Barlett; Betsy Eby, American encaustic painter; and William Dunlap, Southern painter.  This  panel discussion will happen on Friday, April 26 from Noon to 1:00 PM at the University of Mississippi Museum.

Bo Barlett Artist's Lecture: The University of Mississippi Department of Art will be hosting an Artist's Lecture with Bo Barlett an internationally acclaimed, American realist painter.  His lecture will be on Thursday, April 25th at 3:00 PM at the Jackson Events Center (next to the Malco Theater,) 2530 West Jackson Avenue.  Reception will follow the lecture.

CELEBRATE MUSIC, FOOD, and the ARTS
Taking its name from the town’s authentic double decker bus imported from England in 1994, the festival brings together visitors and residents alike for a day-long celebration of music, food, and the arts held on the picturesque Courthouse Square.

Double Decker Spring Run
Come join us in a run through the tradition-rich rolling hills of one of Mississippi’s most popular towns. Along the precisely measured 6.2 mile course, you will pass beautiful antebellum homes, run through the Ole Miss campus, as well as Rowan Oak, the historic home of William Faulkner and conclude this highly competitive race at the Baptist HealthPlex. NOTE: The course has been re-certified in 2011 and will no longer be routed through alleyways but will remain on streets throughout race. Race Times:

10K Run/Walk - 7:30 a.m.
5K Run/Walk - 7:45 a.m.
Kids Fun Run - 9 a.m.

CHIP TIMING: Double Decker Spring Run will use Start2Finish's State of the Art Jaguar Timing System. Each participant will receive a race number bib with a timing chip included on the bib. Please wear your bib number on the front of your body and do NOT remove chip from the back of your bib number. Participants in the Kids Fun Run will not wear timing chips

Double Decker Road Ride

This year’s ride has three fully-supported ride distances (20, 40 & 60 miles) starting at
9:00am from the Whirlpool parking lot (take Coliseum exit off Hwy 6, head ¼ mile south
into Whirlpool parking lot) in Oxford, MS.
These rides will head south of town to the small artists’ community of Taylor, MS and
beyond for the longer rides. There will be rolling SAG support and rest-stops with food
and restrooms.

Event day sign-in and registration begins at 7:30 at Whirlpool.

shelters that operate on tight budgets helping animals find homes -- 9 Lives Cat Rescue
and Drifters Place

Shuttles
Shuttles will run from the Oxford Conference Center to the Square 10am-11pm on Saturday, April 28th. The shuttles will run every 15 minutes. $5 per person and free to children 13 & under.
